When McDonalds entered Germany it was different. Burgers & Fries were unique & new. I can’t believe Subway is in Germany. What German likes American sandwiches? In over 9 years in this country I never had the slightest interest to eat a Subway sandwich. They seem appalling to me and I would rather starve. Now, after opening over 700 restaurants the company is in trouble in Germany. Hah, I wonder if they will have to pull out of the market like Walmart had to a few years ago. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit!

PS: Don’t judge the company by their website… that is one thing hardly any European company has figured out: How to have a proper web presence in today’s day and age…. seriously!

One other way would be to look at the system in a country I’m familiar with: Germany. They have a mostly private insurance but it treats the insurance kind of like a utility – it’s highly regulated with a lot of oversight. If we’re going to give captive customers to insurance companies, then those companies should be treated like a utility. We really have, with the requirement of the individual mandate. And we haven’t got any ability to affect the marketplace with competition. We’re delivering it, and most states have one or many two big providers of insurance. So it’s really important, it’s actually incumbent that we have more accountability, more oversight (and) more transparency.
