Over the past couple of decades, I’ve always said that Champions League wins don’t translate into a strong showing for in the World Cup for the respective National Teams. With England that was always the case. Great teams that won, and dominated the Champions League, but the English National Team failed to make any impression in any of the last few Euro or World Cups.

Then for the last few years Spain dominated in both competitions and put that argument somewhat to rest.

Now it’ll be interesting to see if the German success in this year’s Champions League competition is any indicator for the upcoming World Cup in Rio in 2014. Yes’ it’s still a long way out. Players must stay healthy and all, but for it’s still the National Team, Die Nationalmannschaft which is the ultimate team, and the World Cup, the ultimate competition. Nothing beats it, doesn’t even come close.
