The Local:

One of Germany’s most acclaimed and controversial films by Hitler’s favourite director Leni Riefenstahl was secretly sold off by former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder to help an Olympic bid, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Never heard of the film until today. It’s available to watch on Youtube. The DVDs around are apparently in horrible quality.

Fascinating stuff, sadly secretly sold, but at least to the IOC which should know how to preserve such treasure. For a teaser look no further but to Rammstein, who used some clips for one of their music videos.

From the All-TIME 100 Movies:

Politics and politiques aside, Olympia is an amazing technical and artistic achievement. The film’s innovations directly influenced all televised sports coverage. Its narrative ingenuity unearthed the human stories behind every back-page headline.
