Apple tends to value simplicity over functionality.
I think it’s ‘synchronicity’ they are after here. The iWork apps were being reset this Fall to align them better with the iOS versions. I foresee features being added over the next releases in unison between OSX and iOS. Apple is bringing those apps on the two platforms together to have them work more seamless via iCloud. I looks to me as if platform lock-in will be Apple’s cloud strategy. If OSX and iOS work flawlessly together by using Apple’s own software, Apple can afford to charge their expected prices for hardware and give their software away for free. No competitor can offer this.
