The German Office for Environment wants to restrict the sale of iPhones and iPads because of the environmental impact the devices supposedly have due to the fact that the battery is soldered to the case and not replaceable. They argue that due to this fact the product is obsolete within 2 years.
Total bullshit. The reason why Apple devices, and many other electronic devices are obsolete within a short period of time has nothing to do with the discharging of the battery, but with the furious advancements in innovation in the industry. My 2 year old iPad still holds a charge just fine, and so do my old iPods. It’s that the newer ones can do more cool stuff and that is what people want to buy.
Typical anti-entrepenurism in Germany. That’s why I left.
